Celebrating its 65th year Theatre World remains the definitive annual record of the American theatre season - the most complete record of the Broadway off-Broadway off-off-Broadway and regional theatre season. Volume 65 features Elton John's dazzling "Billy Elliot" and Dolly Parton's musical version of "9 to 5". And in a season replete with screen stars taking turns on the stage Oscar winner Jane Fonda returned to Broadway after four decades in "33 Variations" while Geoffrey Rush debuted on Broadway in "Exit the King" with Susan Sarandon. Horton Foote's "Dividing the Estate" was part of a strong season for new plays that included Joan Allen and Jeremy Irons in "Impressionism" and revivals including Kristin Scott Thomas in "The Seagull" and Daniel Radcliffe in "Equus". The musical "Rock of Ages" and the four-time Tony Award winner "Tovah Feldshuh in Irena's Vow" both brought down the house off-Broadway while "A Civil War Christmas" at the Long Wharf Theater in New Haven and Minsky's at the Center Theater Group in Los Angeles were among the hits of the regional scene.
