The musical score to the National Theatres acclaimed production of The War Horse is an integral part of the perfomance. Much has been made of the extraordinary puppets that bring the titular hero of Michael Morpurgo's original book to life but the stage show takes a huge risk by not by not giving a voice to the creature who is the narrator of the original story. There are whole scenes without words where the drama is provided entirely by puppets and the sweeping score. Add to that two of the finest voices in folk in Tim van Eyken and John Tams and this becomes a compelling CD in its own right. The songs mostly written by Tams and voiced by van Eyken are interspersed between the score's instrumental passages and create a narative thread of their own. Even for those not lucky enough to see the performance there is much to enjoy here whilst the audience are bound to delight in a souvenir that truly captures the emotive power of the production./span_x000D_Tracklisting/span_x000D_1.
